I went into Warsaw as a build up test as I head into longer distance races for the rest of the year. It had been a difficult 6 weeks pre Warsaw with niggles preventing running and worrying whether I’d be able to get around the run without doing any extra damage, but I was doing everything I could to ease the niggle.

The course was a lake swim (choppiest lake I ever did swim in), a flat non technical bike course and a picturesque run through the old town of Warsaw. The sun was out and it was set to be a hot fast day of racing and it sure did deliver.
I came out of the swim 1st in my AG which literally never happens but dropped 2 places in T1, onto the bike where I clawed my way back into 1st with an average 23.5mph, my fastest 70.3 bike.

I just had to hold on for the run, my niggle was playing ball and it really was a gorgeous run course with tons of support, lots of switch backs so I could keep an eye on competition and before I knew it, the red carpet had arrived!

1st in my AG with a new 70.3 pb, I was hoping for a sub 4.35 but I’ll get those 31 seconds next time.
A slot also for the 70.3 world champs in Finland, which I did turn down because it’s all about Kona 🌸
